Message from the Chancellor
Like a proud parent, I must brag somewhat about the Texas State Technical Colleges. TSTC was established 40 years ago to help create a strong Texas. At the time, Governor John Connally predicted we would become "the most sophisticated technical-vocational institute in the country." TSTC is living true to that vision with four colleges: TSTC Harlingen, TSTC Marshall, TSTC Waco, and TSTC West Texas, which has campuses in Abilene, Breckenridge, Brownwood, and Sweetwater.
Our list of recent accomplishments includes colleges within the TSTC System being among the top colleges in the nation in associate degrees conferred in computer and information sciences and support services, and Hispanic graduates. We also can boast the number one two-year college in the state in agriculture, agricultural operations and related sciences, precision production, and the second public college in Texas in engineering related technologies/technicians, and computer and information sciences and support services. (Community College Week, June 19, 2006).
Today, I take pride in knowing that more than 15,000 students attend TSTC each year in credit programs alone, and that number grows to more than 30,000 when the workforce training of TSTC Corporate College is included. With a state-wide role and mission, TSTC is doing what we were created to do. We are efficiently and effectively helping Texas meet the high-tech challenges of today's global economy, in partnership with business and industry, government agencies, and other educational institutions.
TSTC graduates are highly valued by business and industry for their work ethic, knowledge, and workplace skills. Whether you are considering upgrading your skills, or just starting out on your career path, I hope you take the time to personally visit one or more TSTC campuses and consider joining the family of TSTC graduates.
Regards,
Bill Segura, Chancellor, TSTC System
