When you join The TSTC Regents Circle as a donor,
your contribution is an investment in the future, not only for TSTC
but for all of us. Our future lies in the hands of younger generations,
and TSTC faculty and staff go “above and beyond” to
prepare students for that responsibility.
The TSTC System serves the State of Texas through
excellence in instruction, public service, faculty, research, and
economic development. TSTC’s economic development efforts
to improve the competitiveness of business and industry include
exemplary centers of excellence in technical programming clusters/incubators
and the support of educational research commercialization initiatives.
The Regents Circle staff look forward to making
your gift giving experience as effortless and rewarding as possible.
Cash and Pledges
Cash donations are tax deductible to the extent
allowed by federal law and provide a margin of excellence over and
beyond state appropriations. Cash donations are a top priority in
the TSTC System, as they provide money for student scholarships,
faculty and staff development, and capital improvements. If you
work for a corporation, please check with your Human Resources Office
to see if your company/corporation is a matching gift company in
which your gift may be matched, doubled, and sometimes tripled.
Also, gifts may be pledged for payment over a period of years. For
the accuracy of your records and TSTC's records, pledges should
be in writing.
A gift in honor/memory of a loved one, friend, or acquaintance is
a considerate and generous way of recognizing someone dear to you.
When you make an honorary or memorial gift, please accompany the
gift with a note specifying the honoree’s name. We will oversee
your donation seeing that it is administered as you wish and, if
appropriate, we will send a note acknowledging the gift to an appropriate
living family member.
Honorary and Memorial Gifts
A gift in memory or in honor of a loved one, friend,
or acquaintance is a considerate and generous way of recognizing
someone dear to you. When you make such a gift, please accompany
the gift with a note specifying the honoree's name. We will see
that your donation is administered according to your wishes.
Equipment
Donations of equipment allow TSTC to remain competitive
as we strive to provide Texas and the United States with a competent
and qualified workforce. Through lab training on industry standard
equipment, our graduates are prepared for the challenges that lie
ahead after they complete their degree. Donations of equipment are
accepted directly by TSTC, rather than through the Regents Circle.
Real Estate
You may donate real estate as an immediate gift
or an intended gift. An immediate gift provides you with a charitable
deduction. Please have your real estate gift appraised by an appraiser
to determine the value of your deduction. The Regents Circle must
evaluate any and all potential gifts of real estate for their marketability
and will investigate any potential environmental concerns. Before
accepting a gift of real estate, the Regents Circle asks that you
supply detailed information regarding your property.
Retained Life Estate
You can transfer ownership of your personal residence
and/or any additional land to the Regents Circle. This is an exceptional
way of supporting the Regents Circle, plus, you can receive tax
deductions, yet still retain your property. (Note: Some laws apply
to this type of gift. Seek legal council first.)
Securities
You may transfer long-term securities (stocks
or bonds) to the Regents Circle. In many cases, donations of securities
can have significant tax advantages for the donor. Ask your tax
advisor for details.
Donations through Your Will
Bequests to the Regents Circle may be deducted
from your taxable estate. Seek legal advice to predetermine the
most beneficial way of offering your bequest.
Life Insurance
A donation of one’s life insurance policy
is both superbly generous and quite beneficial for both parties
involved. Here are some examples of some life insurance gifts and
their benefits:
- Assign The Regents Circle as owner and beneficiary of a policy
that is paid in full. Due to the fact that this type of gift is
irrevocable, law may entitle you to a charitable income tax deduction
equal to the policy's value.
- Assign The Regents Circle as owner and beneficiary of a policy
that is NOT paid in full, and your policy's value, as well as
your annual payments, may be tax deductible.
- Assign The Regents Circle as beneficiary of a policy, but retain
ownership. Currently this type of gift will not effect in any
income tax deductions, but it may help reduce your estate taxes.
Before donating an insurance gift, please contact your insurance
agent and/or attorney for personalized assistance and current
law information.
